At first glance Peter conveys a very familiar overall impression. As a neo-grotesque sans in the tradition of Helvetica or Univers it has a rational approach. But Peter is different. When going more into detail it unveils a hint of warmth. The clear basic letter forms are combined with attributes of humanist type, which refer to a calligraphic origin. For example, the apertures are quite small, but the strokes of bowls terminate angled. Stems are slightly flourished at their upper terminals. Diacritics are humanist like the i-dot which is round or accents where terminals follow the stroke. Compared to a classic neo-grotesque Peter’s body is less narrow, which also affects the spacing. This has a positive effect on its legibility. The sum of all these details result in its very distinct character. So, in the end you might say that for a neo-grotesque Peter is pretty much a nice fellow. But compared to other sans-serifs it keeps some modesty. And that’s how it got to its established person name.
